Ohio State Legal Services Association/Southeastern Ohio Legal Services is looking for individuals with a demonstrated commitment to making a difference in the lives of indigent people and their communities for staff attorney positions in most, if not all, of its SEOLS field offices in Athens, Chillicothe, Lancaster, Marietta, Newark, New Philadelphia, Portsmouth, Steubenville, and Zanesville. Our attorneys are encouraged and supported in being creative, effective advocates in federal, state, and local judicial, administrative, and legislative forums. Examples of OSLSA/SEOLS litigation can be found in its Significant Litigation Docket here. In addition to direct client representation in areas of family, housing, consumer, benefits, health, utility law and individual rights, OSLSA attorneys have:
1. Established the right to counsel for indigents in Ohio's juvenile custody proceedings and are pursuing the right for parents defending against involuntary adoptions.
2. Established due process rights for indigents in their dealings with utilities, rights of tenants not to be evicted extrajudicially by landlords shutting off their utilities, women not to be denied service due to ex-spouses unpaid bills, tenants' rights to service in their own name, etc.
3. Organized law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, medical providers and shelters into domestic violence councils and successfully pursued federal litigation to ensure enforcement of Ohio's DV laws.
4. Successfully pursued federal litigation against a juvenile court, children services agency and prosecutor to stop the improper removal of children from their homes and to require the provision of meaningful services to ensure their prompt and safe return.
5. Established a dental clinic, visitation centers, pro bono/pro se clinics, county-wide public transportation for low income people and enforced the right of indigents to proceed pro se in the courts.
In addition to an excellent salary ($38,500+ DOE), benefits, LRAP, and leave package, OSLSA provides excellent ongoing training opportunities ranging from its New Attorney Training Protocol and bi-monthly new attorney trainings to CLE-approved one-day and multiple-day trainings on substantive poverty law and trial advocacy skills, including preparation and presentation of a mock jury trial, and bi-annual two-day Programwide retreats.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
BANKRUPTCY ATTORNEY
Ohio State Legal Services Association (OSLSA) is looking to hire an experienced attorney to do bankruptcies for its clients. OSLSA provides legal assistance in civil matters to thousands of low income and senior citizens in 30 counties from its nine field offices in central and southeast Ohio. The attorney hired for this new position will help OSLSA establish the procedures, policies, and systems needed to best meet the need for this service. The attorney will need to be able to effectively and efficiently manage a high volume bankruptcy practice, work cooperatively with others, and advise OSLSA attorneys on bankruptcy issues affecting the legal problems of their clients. Preferably, the position will be located in its Lancaster office though locations in its other field offices could be considered.
The attorney will join and work with OSLSA attorneys who are encouraged and supported in being creative, effective advocates in federal and state courts and administrative, legislative, and community forums. Additional information about OSLSA is available at: "http://www.ohiolegalservices.org/".
Salary will be based on credited experience, e.g., five years credited experience: $47,454; six years: $49,403. In addition, OSLSA provides excellent medical, dental, and optical benefits, leave package, LRAP, and training opportunities.
